Gengzi Year—Mid-Spring
The rampant spread of the pandemic, real-time reports from the Wuhan frontlines. The protracted period of home isolation, a world whose pause button had suddenly been pressed—as if everything had come to a standstill.
Recognition—Reflection
At this juncture, I was prompted to reflect upon innovation in typography. Experimental typographic creation as practice—innovating in the composition and structure of letterforms. Interweaving the visual mutability and artistic freedom of typography to achieve congruence between textual meaning and the design's unity of “form and recognition”.
Experimentation—Understanding
“Art originates from life, yet transcends it.” Through constant practice and exploration, I sought to grasp the true meaning of design rooted in everyday life. Pursuing the inherent affinity between typographic design and natural living, perceiving with care the emotions that the text seeks to convey, and integrating these into my design work.
Perseverance—Growth
The road stretches long and far; I shall search high and low. This initial collection of practice submissions has many shortcomings. I shall continue to maintain my creative passion and never surrender. This practice compilation adopts the format of a typographic journal, employing the expressive method of serialised publication, treating it as a chronicle of my creative development. Through continuous exploration, with earnestness and enduring enthusiasm, I aim to create design that belongs authentically to “life”.
Hope—Anticipation
Spring will always arrive; we share the hope that the pandemic will be thoroughly cleared. Let us meet when the spring tide surges forth, breathing and thriving together.
